Local moviegoers flabbergasted as 'Transformers' beats 'Spider-Verse' in box office race

Local moviegoers were left bewildered this weekend as "Transformers" somehow managed to out-gross the critically acclaimed "Spider-Verse" in the box office race. Despite an impressive $30 per screen average in its second weekend, the superhero flick was unable to keep up with the giant robots that have been dominating the blockbuster landscape for over a decade.

Some fans of the webslinger are calling foul play, accusing the studio behind "Transformers" of buying up tickets and artificially inflating their numbers. One disgruntled viewer took to Twitter, writing, "I just can't believe it. This has to be some kind of sick joke. How does a mediocre action movie with no plot or character development beat an animated masterpiece?"

In the end, though, it seems that audiences just can't get enough of Michael Bay's signature explosions and thinly-veiled military propaganda. Despite being universally panned by critics, "Transformers: Explosion Mania" has raked in millions at the box office, proving once again that there's no accounting for taste.
